Assignment 11: Erosion Magnitude and Rate for Mesa Terrace
Perform a similar analysis as above to determine the erosion magnitude and rate for the Mesa Terrace
around ASU based on this geologic map: ASUPewe.jpg. Note that the Mesa Te
rrace is the light green unit at the edges of the northeast and south and is designated Qefm.
Make the following maps:
- Mapped terrace shapefile over rectified geologic map.
- Erosion magnitude over shaded relief
- Erosion rate over shaded relief
How do the magnitudes of erosion and erosion rate vary between the Salt Verde confluence (our class
example), and the area around ASU? Why do you think they are different? At these rates, how deep wi
ll the river be in another million years?
Grading Rubric (70 points)
- Set problem up (Get data from Seamless, rectify the Pewe map, and digitize it. (30 points--10 each for these steps)
- Mapped terrace shapefile over rectified geologic map (10 points)
- Erosion magnitude over shaded relief (includes main analysis required to get to it--20 points)
- Erosion rate over shaded relief (10 points)
Assignment is due Thursday, April 30, 2009.
